BUYER, QUALIFY THYSELF!
Hello to my past, current and future clients:
The decision to purchase a home is a very big deal, folks; a home is the biggest single investment many of us will ever make. I know I dreamed of ownership for many years before I actually did the deed, and took on my very first mortgage. In fact, in our society wealth is predicated upon home ownership, and word on the street is that Real Estate is a very stable investment vehicle. Furthermore, my home is far more welcoming than my GIC or mutual fund, which has shrunk worse than George Costanza in a frigid lake!
Now, a funny thing I’ve noticed – wanting is not the same as having. So, by way of avoiding disappointment, here are a few items for your consideration when thinking about starting your own process:
¨ Do I have at least 5% of the purchase price available now?
¨ Have I spoken with a mortgage professional to see how much I can borrow?
¨ So, what is my price range?
¨ When do I want to be in my new home?
¨ Why???
¨ And, am I prepared in my own heart to put in an offer, especially if I find a great home early on in my search?
There are many other factors involved, as buying a home is a process, and not a single event. However, an honest evaluation of your values and motivation is fairly effective in seeing where you really stand on some of the finer points of this huge transaction.
